The "Up Next" indicator will not show up if the screen transitions to or from a "both sides" view. Basically, any upcoming post-switch note that requires either key or both keys will have a Middle indicator. Middle indicators are for upcoming Double notes, Double Hold notes, Chain notes, and Spam notes, among other edge cases. Bottom and Top indicators represent their respective lanes. The position of the indicator will tell you what lane the first note after the switch will appear in.
